What is bursitis ?

We have approximately 160 bursa’s in our human body.

Bursa’s are sac like structures that lubricate and reduce friction between bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

When they become swollen or inflamed, it is called bursitis. 

Bursitis occurs due to many reasons; 

  • repetitive use

  • poor mechanics / movement 

  • inflammatory conditions 

  • infection 

  • Trauma

How to manage bursitis?

There are a variety of ways to manage an inflamed bursa. These can vary from conservative to intervention based options. 

Conservative options include;

  • Osteopathic manual therapy 

  • Exercise rehabilitation 

  • Diet modification

  • Medication advice 

Intervention based options;

  • Cortisone injection
